Gyula Kasza, PhD

Introduction

He is the founder of the ‘Maradék nélkül’ program, Hungary’s national food waste prevention initiative, operated by the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih). He spent a total of 16 years in public administration, working at the Ministry of Agriculture and Nébih. Since 2000, he has also pursued an academic career and currently serves as the head of the Department of Applied Food Science at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Budapest. Together with his research group, he recently established the Maradék Nélkül Foundation, a civil organization that supports Hungarian and international food waste prevention initiatives through research and expertise. He participates in the work of the EU Platform on Food Losses and Food Waste and has been selected as the lead expert for the JRC European Consumer Food Waste Forum. He has also supported the EU Commission’s European Citizens Panel on Food Waste as a member of the Knowledge Committee.

Dávid Szakos, PhD

Introduction

He works as a research associate at the Department of Applied Food Science at the University of Veterinary Medicine. He has been a staff member and research coordinator for the ‘Wasteless’ program of the National Food Chain Safety Office since the program’s inception in 2016. His research area is related to sustainable and safe food consumption and food industry innovations. He is a food engineer and chemical engineer, and he obtained his PhD from the University of Veterinary Medicine.

Annamária Dorkó

Introduction

She holds a BSc in Food Engineering from Szent István University, Hungary. She is the coordinator of the awareness-raising campaign for Project Wasteless, Hungary’s national food waste prevention program. In parallel, she is pursuing veterinary studies and contributing to the Food Economics Research Group at the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest.

Atilla Kunszabó

Introduction

He continued his studies at the Faculty of Food Science at Szent István University, earning his MSc in Food Engineering in 2021. Previously, he participated in research and educational activities supporting consumer awareness at the Risk Prevention and Education Department of the National Food Chain Safety Office. He is currently a PhD student at the University of Veterinary Medicine and a research assistant at the Department of Applied Food Science.

Ágnes Császár-Biró

Introduction

In 2017, she earned a degree in Applied Environmental Research from the University of Pécs. Her international work experiences deepened her interest in sustainable food consumption and related systems. From 2020, she worked as a system specialist at the National Food Chain Safety Office focusing on the food chain and its transparency. Currently, she is a research coordinator at the University of Veterinary Medicine at the Department of Applied Food Science, managing consumer surveys and data collection projects.

András Vig

Introduction

He completed his studies at the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, where he first earned a degree in Food Engineering (BSc), followed by a master’s degree in Food Safety and Quality Engineering (MSc). After university, he started working as a project manager at the Food Chain Safety Center Nonprofit Ltd and works as a project assistant in our team. In his role, he collaborates with colleagues from the Department of Applied Food Science at the University of Veterinary Medicine.

Eszter Fügedi

Introduction

She completed her higher education at the Faculty of Food Science at the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences. In December 2023, she earned her degree in Food Engineering (BSc), and from September 2024, she will continue her studies in the MSc program in Food Safety and Quality Engineering. She is currently a research coordinator at the Department of Applied Food Science at the University of Veterinary Medicine.

Gabriella Molnár-Füle

Introduction

She completed her studies at the University of Szeged, Faculty of Science and Informatics, obtaining a research degree (MSc) in biology in 2006. After her research, she applied her knowledge in public administration, where she worked in environmental policy areas. She is currently working as a project coordinator on a project related to sustainable food and nutrition at the Foundation.

Widya Satya Nugraha

Introduction

He received his Master’s degree from the Department of International Master Program of Agriculture at National Chung Hsing University, Taiwan, specializing in Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in the Department of Food Economics at the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE). In addition to his academic pursuits, he has gained professional experience as a research assistant and data analyst, primarily focusing on consumer science studies, including market analysis, consumer choice modeling, willingness to pay, preference, etc. Throughout his Ph.D., he also worked as a member of the Food Economics Research Group (Centre for Food Consumption & Waste Research) at the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest.

Aira Joy Aquino

Introduction

She completed her studies at the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, where she earned a Master’s degree in Food Safety and Quality Engineering (MSc). After graduating, she began working as a research coordinator at the Department of Applied Food Science at the University of Veterinary Medicine, where she coordinates international project collaborations within the EU.

Lili Sinkovics

Introduction

She completed her studies at the Budapest University of Economics and Business with a Bachelor’s degree in Tourism and Hospitality, then continued her studies at Eötvös Loránd University with a Master’s degree in Marketing. In addition to her work at the foundation, she currently works as a research coordinator at the Department of Applied Food Science at the University of Veterinary Medicine. 

Oktay Haykir, PhD

Introduction

He works as a Research Associate at the Department of Applied Food Science at the University of Veterinary Medicine. He obtained his BSc in Food Engineering from Türkiye and his MSc in Food Engineering from Italy. He earned his PhD in Food Microbiology from the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences. His research focuses on food safety and quality, food waste reduction, and sustainability.

Kimberly Mari Virtucio

Introduction

She completed her MSc from the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences. She previously worked as a Quality Assurance and Control Specialist. Later, she served as a University Research Associate at the Institute of Food Science and Technology in the Philippines, where she contributed to research on food innovation and technology development. She is currently a research coordinator at the Department of Applied Food Science at the  University of Veterinary Medicine.
